“Mount your karts. Get set. GO!” After a brief initiation into the Go-Kart world, the team at Adrem were in Kingston hurtling head-first into the throes of Go-Kart rivalry.

The day started amicably enough, as a team of fourteen entered cabs en-route to the race track. We were treated to a clear, empty road once we had left the Adrem office and the team began to speculate as to whom would be a worthy champion that Friday evening. Passing bets and quiet confidence were main stays until the moment of truth. But there was a bit of waiting to endure before we could test our metal. After we had picked out jumpsuits and helmets and sat through a few rules and tips, we were outside in teams of two, raring to go. The pairings saw Sally Harvest with Adam McLeod, a worthy duo; Louise Kiff with Carly Harvest, a double act to be reckoned with; the experienced Tom Galvin with the amiable Jordan Kara; The younger Galvin, Michael, with Natalie Zoor, another worthy pairing; The antagonist, Dean Toye with the hopeless James Ledsham; the good-sport Norman Hayes paired with Gary, the boy racer; and last but certainly not least, the dynamic operative duo, Gabbi and Steve. The day bared all the hallmarks of a truly memorable day.

A quick practise run around the track quickly sorted the promising from the wretched. Most had completed their lap without a hitch apart from a young, Lewis-Hamilton – I mean, James Ledsham – nearly totalling his cart near the chicane bend. Things were not looking too good for the young man. After we all got to grips with the track’s twists and turns, the excitement and adrenaline had left its trace in every one of us and a few began to converse tactics. Dean Toye’s hair-brained schemes were being stressed in typical fashion yet were not guaranteed.

The likely champions were now sizing each other up in a truly competitive manner, although all in good humour, and the teams began to enter their carts. The first to take to their carts began to rev up their engines. The Starter then proceeded to take to his place on the start / finishing line, holding a fine array of flags and signs. He raised the starting flag, waved it in the air and they were off! The first to take the lead was Kart 5, headed by Dean Toye. Next were Gary and Norman’s Kart 6, trailing close behind. Tom and Jordan’s Kart 1 were chasing the pack in third place. In fourth place were Gabbi and Steve’s Kart 3 in relentless pursuit. The all-female Kart 2, with Louise and Carly, held 5^th place. Adam and Sally’s Kart 7 were accelerating at a strong rate, yet held in 6^th. And holding up the rear was Kart 4’s Natalie and Michael Galvin.

With under an hour left to go, the race was still in its early stages so winning places were still up for grabs. The rank was much unchanged for the first few laps as Dean, Tom and Gary pushed for that sought after 1^st place. The other contenders were seizing / missing out on opportunities to overtake the forerunners and it was clear everything was yet to be decided.

A new driver, a new ten minutes and the inevitable had happened. A seismic shift in pole positions with huge consequences on the race took course. Each driver was spurred on by the individual cheers of each kart’s partners as the drivers careered around the track. The driving force that was Tom and Jordan had taken 1st place and Gabbi and Steve were thereabouts.

Adam began to reveal his ability, rising 3 places to 3rd, whilst Louise showed tricky and spirited character, holding out for fourth. The biggest fall was Kart 5, where James had taken the reigns and directly drove the kart into the stack of tyres off the track, holding up the poachers behind him. He looked as suited to this as a horse to a staircase, breaking not only a few rules but also losing out on kart 5’s leading position. More, he also helped Dean to temporarily lose his cool, as Dean gesticulated hopelessly 100 metres away to the amusement of the others.

To James’ relief, not to mention Dean’s, James was out of the kart and told never to go on one again.

The race was drawing to its final stages and all teams were trying to make up for any lost time. Carly and Louise were in such a steady position and were proving to be a decisive force to the final standings. Adam, with incredible speed, was certainly making the lost ground for his and Sally’s team. Steve and Gabbi, each showing assured and strong driving skills began to trail Tom and Jordan’s kart very closely. Natalie, improving on her earlier efforts, helped her cause considerably along with her able partner, Michael. Norman and Gary were still in it. As for James and Dean’s kart 5, it went from bad to worse as Dean began to spin the cart, ending up off the edge of the chicane bend, livid by this turn of events. Finally, the race came to a close where all began to eagerly anticipate the final positions.

The results of the race are as follows: In last place, although showing some great driving, was Louise and Carly. In 6th place were Natalie and Michael, with a very respectable amount of completed laps. In 5th place, to the horror of Dean was Kart 5 (James wasn’t too concerned).

In fourth place, clearly pleased, were Norman and Gary. Norman revelled in his achievement yet much to the exasperation of Dean (above). The face says it all really.  In third, accumulating both an award for third place and fastest lap time was Adam and Sally.

In second place, with two very strong performances were Gabbi and Steve.

Yet the winners, the pace setters, with blistering speed and energy, were Tom Galvin and Jordan Kara!

Here, they are clearly very pleased with themselves. Well done to Tom Galvin and Jordan Kara.

Adrem has recently been involved with the sponsorship of a local sports events company, F3 events.

F3 events host running, swimming and cycling events around the greater London area through-out the year, with our first event for the season being a half marathon based on a new track at Dorney Lake.

Tom Galvin, MD of Home Maintenance Providers Adrem Contracts gives us this practical advice:

It’s really quite simple to add an ensuite in your home. Firstly, you need to purchase a macerator which allows you to put a bathroom virtually anywhere! A macerator is a grinding device attached to a pump and allows you to put toilets wherever you want, you just need to comply with the manufacturer’s instructions. Macerators cost approx. £300 and are sold in stores such as Plumb Centre.

Secondly, you must get your macerator installed by a professional, and dependent on the situation of the ensuite, this fitting may call for scaffolding etc, do not attempt this yourself! You will need a plumber to install the device and an electrician to connect the macerator to a power supply. Always employ an NICEIC registered electrician, you really do need to employ the best when you’re mixing water with electric.

Just a tip, be watchful of what you put down your toilet, the biggest problem with a macerator is the potential jams that can be caused by non-disposable objects.

Adrem have recently crossed over international waters to under take works in St Tropez, France. Work has been progressing successfully in a lavish villa owned by an English property management company that requested Adrem’s expertise of such a project.

Works carried out include; damp treatment, renovating and decorating quest houses and also electrical fit outs.

The project illustrates how far Adrem are prepared to go in order to provide our clients satisfaction on each job. With our Tradespersons enjoying the new surroundings and clients happy with the progress so far, it is another challenge that Adrem have successfully managed.
